"Your Worship, I thought I was sleeping with my wife, as the room was dark," pleaded 49-year-old Kwaku Otu when he appeared before the Akyem Swedru Circuit Court for allegedly impregnating his 19-year-old daughter.The court, presided over by Mr Kofi Aktowiah; dismissed Otu's plea of guilty with explanation and remanded him in prison custody to re-appear on January 14,2010.

Mr. Mahmud Khalid, Upper West Regional Minister has expressed concern about the increased rate of alcoholism among women in the region.
He said relevant sources had indicated that alcohol consumption among women was higher than that of the men, a situation he said was worrying and called on the National Commission for Civic Education to intensify its education on the issue.

A court has ordered that a 15-year-old girl who was defiled by two friends and got pregnant should undergo a legal abortion.The Circuit Court at Goaso in the Brong Ahafo Region presided over by Mr. Osei Kwame, gave the order with the consent of the girl’s parents to enable her to continue her education, she is in primary six.
