Sunderland have completed the signing of defender Titus Bramble from Wigan. The deal will cost an initial £1m, which would rise to £3m depending on the player's appearances. Bramble has flown to Portugal to join up with his new team-mates on their pre-season tour after completing a medical, and could play in Saturday's friendly against Hull.
He has put pen to paper on a deal that will keep him at the Stadium of Light until 2013.Sunderland boss Steve Bruce said: 'Titus was absolutely outstanding for me at Wigan. He matured into a very, very good player so there was absolutely no hesitation when the chance came to bring him to Sunderland.
'He was certainly the right player at the right price and this is a great deal for the football club.' Bramble began his career with Ipswich Town, before spending five years at Sunderland's biiter rivals Newcastle. Speaking about the potential controversy of the move, he said: 'Look, I thought long and hard about signing him, long and hard because I knew it might be a difficult one for Sunderland fans and for him.
'But the great thing is that the lad's got plenty of bottle - he wanted to come here, he wanted to play for me and Sunderland, and I feel sure that Sunderland fans will recognise that and give him a fair crack of the whip.' Source:dailymail
